Christmas Lights
A work of art made of lights and emotions
During Advent, Baden is transformed into a glowing spectacle. Since 2007, the unique Swiss light installation by renowned artist Willi Walter has been delighting visitors from near and far. With 10,200 LED lights and specially created angel figures, the city centre becomes an open-air gallery stretching 1.8 kilometres. This modern form of Christmas lighting has long been one of Baden's most popular attractions and gives the city a very special atmosphere.
Whether you are taking a leisurely stroll through the festively lit promenade or photographing the artistically staged Advent lights, culture, aesthetics and the festive spirit come together here. Incidentally, the entire lighting system is powered entirely by renewable electricity from hydro and solar energy. Art and sustainability come together to create a conscious, sensory lighting experience.
Liechterwecke
A particular highlight is the festive start to the lighting season, the Liechterwecke, which takes place on November 18th 2026. A large group of children will bring the artwork to life. The distribution of bells begins in the Cordula Passage at 5:15 p.m., followed by the ceremonial switching on of the lights on Schlossbergplatz at 5:30 p.m. Freshly baked Spanischbrödli from local bakeries will be provided for the little ones, and steaming mulled wine or punch for the grown-ups.
Christmas in Baden is atmospheric and visually unique. If you are looking for special moments, impressive culture and magical lights during the Advent season, you will find them in Baden.
