Badenfahrt

The Badenfahrt is the city's biggest festival and a highlight of Baden's cultural life. Every ten years, a second city emerges in the streets and alleys, with fine restaurants, creative installations, elaborate stages and cool bars. Countless volunteers develop creative ideas, design spaces, build and decorate them, and run the wide range of activities on offer.

The roots of the Badenfahrt date back to the Middle Ages, when people travelled to the city's thermal springs to bathe. It all began in 1923, when, in the spirit of renewal after the First World War, a large festival was held in honour of the 1714 Peace Congress. The community of Baden was celebrated. In those uncertain times, a sense of home was a reliable compass.

Today, the Badenfahrt attracts visitors from all parts of the country. At its last event in 2023, the cultural and spa town welcomed over a million guests. Since 1972 and 1982, respectively, the so-called «small» Badenfahrt has taken place every five years after the big Badenfahrt.
