Die Badener Disputation, Darstellung in der Reformationschronik von Heinrich Bullinger (1504-1575) im Kopienband von 1605/06

Faith, power, and words

In the context of the Baden Disputation of 1526
The Baden Disputation of 1526 was a turning point in the history of the Swiss Confederation. In the city church of Baden, Catholic and Reformed theologians publicly debated the "true" interpretation of the faith.

Baden, then a meeting place of the Swiss Diet and firmly in Catholic hands, was deliberately chosen as the venue. The Catholic side was determined to suppress the Reformation in Zurich. The debate was public, carefully orchestrated, and driven by political interests.

This guided tour traces the events of this dramatic occasion through the old town and reveals how closely intertwined faith, politics, and power were in Baden – a piece of history whose impact is still felt today.
